Waters solution-detection of vanillin in infant milk powder

Background: Vanillin is a synthetic fragrance. According to the report of the European Commission of Experts on February 24, 2000, large doses can cause headache, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, and even damage the liver and kidneys. Therefore, China prohibits the addition of infant formula milk powder in the first stage of 0-6 months.

National standard method: GB2760-2011 on the amount of vanillin added: older infants and young children can use vanillin, ethyl vanillin and vanilla bean extract in formulas. The maximum usage is 5mg / 100mL , 5mg / 100mL and appropriate use according to production needs, of which 100mL is calculated on the basis of ready-to-eat food, the production enterprise should be converted into the amount of use in formula food according to the proportion of reconciliation;

Any food used in infants and young children's formulas covering the range of 0 to 6 months shall not be added with any flavoring. Note: Only the limits are specified in the national standard method, and there is no corresponding detection method.

The pretreatment method is to precipitate the milk powder after passing through the MAX column, see the table below; vanillin has a large polarity, and the reverse phase retention is relatively weak. After the milk powder is dissolved in water, acetic acid is adjusted to pH 4.6, centrifuged, filtered, adjusted to pH 7, and loaded onto the MAX cartridge.
